CARV member Arlene Golembiewski (Sierra Leone ’74 – ’76) started Sherbro Foundation in 2013 to assist people in her town with vital economic development needs. The earliest focus was on girls’ education and in the past five years they have helped over 600 girls attend school. Recently, high school graduates in the chiefdom have been able to attend college, thanks to Sherbro scholarships. Click here for a link to the Sherbro website and the inspiring story of Aminata Kamara, the first awardee.
CARV has been a long-time supporter of Arlene’s amazing efforts in Sierra Leone, as have individual members. In honor of the fifth anniversary, a former Peace Corps Volunteer has offered two challenge grants to help Sherbro continue their work: he will match up to $850 of new contributions and an additional $250 from CARV members. See the Sherbro website to donate or to ask questions. Thank you!
