Cincinnati Returned Volunteers Programs and Projects

Bi-monthly Social Events and Potlucks

CARV generally meets on the second Sunday of January, March, September and November at 2 pm and on the second Saturday of May at 4 pm for a social event and potluck. All members, family and friends are invited. We often have a speaker who has recently returned from serving in the Peace Corps, and we also hear from groups that are involved in community service locally and internatioanally.

Annual Picnic

Each July, CARV joins with Southwest Ohio Returned Volunteers (SORVO), our friends from the Dayton area, for a picnic for members of both chapters and friends.

Oktoberfest

Barry Adamson has hosted CARV for many years at his family farm for a bonfire and cookout.

Restaurant Outings

CARV loves to eat and we regularly enjoy meals at local ethnic restaurants, including Korean, South Indian, Ethiopian, Senegalese, etc., etc.

Service Projects

CARV is currently supporting Catholic Charities of Southwestern Ohio in Refugee Resettlement. We have provided transportation to recent arrivals, taught English classes and tutored, worked in the warehouse and moved families into their new apartments, worked with refugees doing community service at a demonstration farm. We have been asked to mentor a Syrian family of 6 (soon to be 7), helping them to integrate into the community.

CARV is an active supporter of Sherbro Foundation, established by member Arlene Golembiewski after a trip back to Sierra Leone. Sherbro’s activities include girls education, community computing, tree planting and successful Ebola control.

In the past, CARV has worked with other local groups such as People Working Cooperatively and Matthew 25 ministries to give back to the community. For many years we hosted New Americans in December for a tour of holiday sights, followed by a lunch and activities.

Peace Corps Partnerships

CARV enjoys supporting volunteers in the field through Peace Corps Partnerships.
