CARV was thrilled to host Anne Baker, VP of NPCA, for a Happy Hour on May 18th. We were also very glad to see Jaime, who is currently serving as a PCV in Morocco and will be returning shortly for her third year.
Anne provided an update on NPCA activities, which are dedicated to a lifelong commitment to Peace Corps ideals. There are three goals: helping the Peace Corps be the best it can be, helping the Peace Corps community thrive, and providing development support for projects and individuals. Advocacy is part of the first objective. We are currently working to maintain the level pf government funding for the Peace Corps at $410 mm. The campaign has several phases – members of CARV and other affiliate groups have contacted Senators and members of Congress by telephone and email and the current phase is a postcard campaign. June 27th will be a Health Support Advocacy day in support of pending Peace Corps Health Legislation.
CARV is one of 167 Affiliate Groups of the National Peace Corps Association. Membership is free in both CARV and NPCA. Click here for more information on NPCA.
