CARV is happy to helpfund a project organized by Danielle Albers from Loveland, OH, who attended the University of Cincinnati and is currently serving in the Peace Corps in Ukraine. We recently donated $500 to help fund this camp for youth through the Peace Corps Partnerships program.
Here is how Danielle described her project:
“Hello! My name is Danielle Albers, I am from Loveland, Ohio and attended the University of Cincinnati where I earned my bachelor’s degree in social work. I am now currently a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in Ukraine as a TEFL volunteer in the small town of Sudova Vyshnya.
I wanted to write to you today about giving money to a Peace Corps program which needs your help: Camp MASCOT (My Artistic Summer Camp of Teamwork). Summer camps leave a lasting impression on youth and can give them the skills they need to excel in life. In Ukraine, life and professional skills often fall through the cracks as schools try to adjust to a more STEM-focused curriculum and after school programs are not as available as in the United States.
Camp MASCOT is a 7-day English-speaking and project development camp for Ukrainian youth, and will take place in western Ukraine. The project seeks to organize 70 Ukrainians aged 13-20 from all over the country. Camp MASCOT is a program that provides a unique opportunity for campers to develop and embolden their individual critical thinking, project development and active citizenry, while focusing on developing knowledge around social and global subjects including gender equality, the disinformation war, stereotypes and human trafficking, which are especially apparent issues in Ukraine.
Camp MASCOT emphasizes the importance of the arts in education. Lessons will be taught through artistic mediums, and students will be provided a creative space to share and grow in their artistic ability. Arts and teamwork are at the core of our values in providing an inclusive and empowering opportunity for youth.
Camp MASCOT will feature American Peace Corps Volunteers, including myself, teamed with motivated Ukrainian volunteers to provide a unique environment for campers.
I hope you consider donating to fund Camp MASCOT. Your donation will supplement grant funds to provide accommodation, food, materials and the venue. Our fundraising goal is $3,200. A $100 donation funds 4 campers for the entire week. A $200 donation funds a week of meals for 10 campers. A $300 donation covers the cost of lodging for 25% of our campers.
Your donation will go a long way!
Thank you for your time!
Yours In Peace,
Danielle Albers”
After we made our donation, CARV received a note from Danielle:
“Camp MASCOT and I thank you and the officers of Cincinnati Area Retirned Volunteers for your donation! Your contribution will go a long way in supporting our project!
Please extend my gratitude to the officers and members of Cincinnati Area Returned Volunteers.
All the best,
Danielle Albers”
